A gaming headset on a USB dongle shows no battery level anywhere in macOS. The Mac treats it as a USB audio device, and the battery lists in macOS are for Bluetooth devices. That leaves the light on the headset, the maker’s app, and a battery monitor. Here is each one.
The light on the headset
Most headsets show the battery with a light, and some play a sound when the battery is low.
| Headset | What the light means |
|---|---|
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova | Power button: green 100% to 50%, yellow 49% to 15%, orange 14% to 6%, red 5% or less |
| Corsair Void Pro and Void Elite | While on: amber 1% to 89%, green 90% to 100% |
| Logitech G733 | The lights turn red and the headset plays a sound when the battery is low |
A light tells you a range. It does not tell you a number, and you have to take the headset off to see it.
The maker’s app
| Maker | App | On a Mac |
|---|---|---|
| SteelSeries | GG | Yes, with limits. Engine works. Sonar and Moments do not. Since April 2026, GG gets only critical fixes on macOS |
| Corsair | iCUE | Yes. Macs on macOS 11 or earlier no longer get updates |
| Logitech | G HUB | Yes |
| HyperX | NGENUITY | No. It is for Windows |
Open the app and select your headset. The app shows a battery level if it supports your model on macOS, and not every model is supported. Each app covers one brand, and it has to be open to tell you anything.
Headset battery not showing in the Bluetooth menu
This is normal for a headset on a 2.4 GHz dongle. The dongle connects by USB, so the headset is not a Bluetooth device to the Mac. The Bluetooth menu, the Bluetooth settings and the Batteries widget do not list it, and no setting adds it.
A headset that also has Bluetooth can show a level while it is paired with the Mac over Bluetooth.
- Click the Control Center icon in the menu bar.
- Click Bluetooth.
- Look next to the name of the headset.
Bluetooth headphones from Sony, Bose and other makers work the same way. Some report a level to macOS and some do not. See Bluetooth battery level not showing on a Mac.
Keep the headset battery in the menu bar
BatteryBud is a battery monitor for Mac. From version 1.2.0 it reads these headsets through their USB receivers.
| Maker | Headsets |
|---|---|
| Corsair | Void, HS70, Virtuoso XT and Virtuoso SE |
| SteelSeries | Arctis 7, Arctis 9, Arctis Nova 7 and Arctis Nova Pro Wireless |
| HyperX | Cloud Alpha Wireless |
| Logitech | G533, G733 and G PRO X |
Each headset gets a percentage, a history and alerts, like any other device. You can pin it to the menu bar, and set a low battery alert at the level you want. Then the warning comes before the headset goes quiet in the middle of a call or a game.
BatteryBud also shows Bluetooth headphones that report a level, including ones that macOS itself shows no level for.
If your headset is not in the table, open Settings, then Devices, in BatteryBud. A button there makes a short report of what is connected, which you can send to us.
Your controller has a battery too. See how to check a game controller’s battery on a Mac.
