To check a Logitech mouse or keyboard battery on a Mac, open Logi Options+ and look under the picture of the device. macOS shows the level too, but only for a device that is paired over Bluetooth. A device on a USB receiver is missing from every battery list in macOS. Here is each way, and how to keep the level in the menu bar.
Logi Options+
- Open Logi Options+. If you do not have it, download it from Logitech’s website.
- Look at the home screen. It lists your Logitech devices.
- Read the battery level under the picture of your mouse or keyboard.
Some devices show a percentage. Others show 1 to 3 dots.
| Dots | Battery level |
|---|---|
| 3 | More than 80% |
| 2 | 11% to 80% |
| 1 | 10% or less |
Options+ also sends a notification when the charge is low.
The Bluetooth settings
If the device is paired over Bluetooth, macOS shows its level.
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Click Bluetooth.
- Look under the name of your mouse or keyboard.
The level is also in Control Center, under Bluetooth. If it is missing there, see Bluetooth battery level not showing on a Mac.
The light on the device
| Device | Green | Red |
|---|---|---|
| MX Master 3S | 100% to 11% | 10% or less |
| MX Anywhere 3S | 100% to 11% | 10% or less |
| MX Keys S | 100% to 11% | 10% or less |
The light pulses green while the device charges. On an MX Keys S, the backlight turns off at 10% to save power.
Logitech says an MX Master 3S or an MX Anywhere 3S lasts up to 70 days on a full charge, and that 3 minutes of charging gives about a day of use.
Logitech mouse battery not showing on a Mac
The most common cause is the receiver. A Logi Bolt or Unifying receiver is a USB device. The Bluetooth menu, the Bluetooth settings and the Batteries widget list Bluetooth devices, so a mouse on a receiver is not in any of them. No setting in macOS adds it.
Check these in order.
- Find how the mouse is connected. If the small USB receiver is in your Mac or your hub, the mouse uses it.
- Open Logi Options+. It reads the level through the receiver.
- If you want the level in macOS, pair the mouse over Bluetooth. Press the Easy-Switch button to choose a free channel, hold it until the light blinks fast, then open System Settings, click Bluetooth, and click Connect.
- If the mouse is on Bluetooth and the level is still missing, turn the mouse off and on, then open the Bluetooth settings again and wait a minute.
What macOS and Options+ do not show
- No level in the menu bar. Logitech’s guide lists the Options+ home screen and the Bluetooth settings.
- No choice of warning level. The warning comes at the level Logitech picked.
- No history. You cannot see how many weeks the last charge lasted.
- One brand. Options+ shows Logitech devices, and not your other batteries.
Keep the Logitech battery in the menu bar
BatteryBud is a battery monitor for Mac. From version 1.2.0, Logitech mice and keyboards on a Unifying, Bolt or Lightspeed receiver appear by themselves, with history and alerts like any other device. A Logitech device on Bluetooth appears when it reports a level.
You can pin the mouse to the menu bar with its percentage, and set a low battery alert at the level you want. The history shows how many weeks a charge lasts.
BatteryBud reads other brands the same way. See how to check a Razer mouse battery on a Mac. For Apple’s mouse, see how to check your Magic Mouse battery.
